In the Connected Community Approach, a distinction is made between volunteers and resident leaders. Volunteers work for the organization, they get a job description and perform tasks that further the organization’s mandate. Resident leaders have their own agenda. Organizations performing a Community Backbone function support residents in doing what they want to do. This article describes the importance of this distinction.
